Sanya, China: Miss India World Manushi Chhillar has made India proud by winning the Miss World 2017 pageant here.
The 20-year-old girl from Haryana was crowned by Miss World 2016 Stephanie Del Valle in a glittering event on Saturday. As many as 108 women from all over the world participated in this beauty pageant.
Miss Mexico, Andrea Meza, was the first runner up and Stephanie Hill from England was the second runner up.
In 2000 Priyanka Chopra won this coveted title and Chhillar has ended India’s 17-year long wait. Reita Faria was the first Indian woman, who won this title in 1966, followed by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in 1994, Diana Haydon in 1997 and Yukta Mookhey in 1999.
Born in Haryana to doctor parents, Manushi studied in St. Thomas School in New Delhi and Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Sonepat.
According to Miss World website, Chhillar aims to be a cardiac surgeon and has plans of opening non-profit hospitals in rural areas. Also, she is a trained classical dancer and loves outdoor sports like scuba diving, snorkelling and bungee jumping.
After getting the top five spot, Manushi was asked a question during the question and answer round that which profession deserves the highest salary and why.
Replying to the question, she said, “I think a mother is of highest respect. I don’t think its just about cash but love and respect she gives to someone. She is the biggest inspiration in my life. Mother should get highest respect.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra took to their twitter accounts to congratulate Manushi.
