Mumbai: Veteran Bollywood actress Sridevi died of cardiac arrest on Saturday in Dubai at the age of 54. The funeral of the first female superstar of the tinsel town is expected to take place today.
Sridevi passed away on Saturday after suffering a cardiac arrest in her room in Jumeirah Emirates Towers hotel.
According to reports, industrialist Anil Ambani has sent an aircraft to Dubai to bring back Sridevi’s body to India. Her last rites will be performed in Mumbai on Monday, although there is no confirmation from the family on this so far.
As per sources, Sridevi’s autopsy has been completed and her family members are waiting for the laboratory reports. Her body would be flown back to India by today evening.
The legendary actress was in Dubai along with her husband Boney Kapoor and daughter Khushi Kapoor to attend the marriage of Sonam Kapoor’s cousin Mohit Marwah.
Her older daughter Janhvi Kapoor stayed back in Mumbai for the shooting of her debut movie ‘Dhadak’.
If sources are to be believed, Sridevi’s huband and producer Boney Kapoor and other family members left for Mumbai after attending the wedding. But the ‘English Vinglish’ actress decided to stay back.
Sources say that Boney, who had left Dubai for Mumbai, returned back to surprise his wife. He woke up Sridevi around 5:30 pm and the couple had a small chat.
Boney asked her for a dinner and the actress went to wash room for getting ready. When Sridevi did not come back after 15 minutes her husband knocked the door but he did not get any reply.
Boney then forced open the door and found Sridevi lying motionless in the bath tub full of water. She was rushed to the nearby Rashid Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The actress breathed her last at around 11 pm on Saturday.
The news of her untimely death came as a shock for the entire nation.
We are completely shocked. She had no history of a heart attack,” said Sridevi’s brother-in-law Sanjay Kapoor ,who reached Dubai on Sunday morning after receiving the news.
Sridevi was best known for her performance is some of the iconic films like ‘Mr India’, ‘Nagina’, ‘Sadma’, ‘Chaalbaaz’, ‘Chandni’ among many others. The Padma Shri recipient was last seen in ‘Mom’ in 2017
