Mumbai: After a long wait, finally filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming period drama ‘Padmavat’(formerly Padmavati) is going to release on January 25.
The Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor starrer was earlier scheduled to release on December 1 but the movie embroiled in controversies as several Hindu groups and political leaders staged protest, accusing the director of distorting history.
Despite Bhansali claiming time and again that there is no romantic scene between queen Padmini and Alauddin Khilji, the movie remained in controversies.
The movie will now be named after Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s 16th century epic poem of the same name on which it is purportedly based.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to announce the release date of ‘Padmavat’ and wrote, #Padmavat to release on 25 Jan 2018… #RepublicDayWeekend – taran adarsh (@taran_adarsh) January 8, 2018.
Deepika will essay the role of queen Padmini, Shahid as Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer will play the character of Alauddin Khilji. Incidentally, ‘Padmavat’ will clash with Akshay Kumar starrer ‘PadMan’.
As per sources, the Rajput Karni Sena has stuck to its demand for a complete ban on the film.
