Mohali: India’s stand-in captain Rohit Sharma on Wednesday became the first batsman to hit his third double hundred in One Day International (ODI).
Rohit, who is leading India in the absence of Virat of Kohli, scored 208 runs (153 balls) and India set a total of 392 runs in stipulated 50 over against Sri Lanka in the second ODI match played at the Punjab Cricket Association’s IS Bindra Stadium here.
His 208 runs included 13 fours and 12 sixes. Sharma and fellow-opener Shikhar Dhawan put together 115 runs for the first wicket (68 runs off 67 balls) and then 213 runs for the second wicket with Shreyas Iyer (88 runs of 70 balls).
Earlier, Rohit had scored 264 runs against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens in Kolkata and his maiden ODI double hundred against Australia.
Rohit was the only batsman to score more than one double hundred in ODIs. Sachin Tendulkar ,Virender Sehwag, Chris Gayle and Martin Guptill have only one each.
