Mumbai: An FIR has been registered here by a group of Muslim people against the makers of Priya Prakash Varrier’s viral song ‘Manikya malaraya poovi’ from the Malayalam movie ‘Oru Adaar Love’ for allegedly hurting their sentiments, according to sources.

Priya Praksh gained popularity with a single shot in her debut southern movie ‘Oru Adaar Love’. Just a seductive wink of an eye and a shy smile by the 18-year-old brought over 1.3 million followers in a single day, which is a record even the biggest of the Indian cinema stars are yet to achieve.

A small clip of the video featuring Priya has been a huge trend not only in India, but in Pakistan and Egypt also.

As per sources, one of the complainants claimed that the video insults Prophet Mohammad.

“After listening to the song, I went for the translation of the lyrics. The translation is about our Prophet,” said the complainant.

He also said that the name of the prophet has been taken in the background when the boy and girl were shown romancing.

Sources reveal that the complainant clarified that he had nothing against the movie and the actors.

Omar Lulu, director of the movie said that ‘Manikya Malaraya Poovi’ means “a pearl flower that is very precious”. He further said that the song is based on the love story of Prophet Mohammad and his first wife.

“People around the country, or rather around the world, are loving it. But there has been some opposition from some old Muslims in the community. They feel that a love song that is about the Prophet Muhammad and his wife in a film is insulting to Islam. But these people are in a small minority,” he said.

Meanwhile, the movie is scheduled to release by the end of June this year.
