We will not allow ‘Padmaavat’ to be screened in India, says Karni Sena Chief

Mumbai: Rajput Karni Sena chief Lokendra Singh Kalvi rubbished the reports that they have accepted Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s invitation to watch the special screening of ‘Padmaavat’.

There were reports doing the rounds that the Karni Sena is ready to watch the film on Bhansali’s invitation. But the Kalvi strongly denied the reports and criticized media for cooking up stories of their own.

“Not a single member of the Karni Sena watched the film. Why are rumours being spread again and again when we have already taken a stand and shared it with the media, not once or twice but many times? We say it again that we will not allow Padmaavati to be screened in India at any cost,” Kalvi told a leading website.

Criticising the media, Kalvi said, “Twenty-four hours ago, the same story was going on and today (Tuesday) again, the same story has started.”

He also said that he had met Chief Ministers of four states regarding Karni Sena’s stand.

Kalvi revealed that he went to Sabarmati Ashram in order to imbibe a feeling of non violence. “Things are going out of my hand and the public does not want to see their mother Padmaavati dancing on- screen in public.

Disappointed with Supreme Court’s verdict, Kalvi said that even the apex court did not understand the sentiments of the Rajput community.

“We stopped (release of) ‘Padmavati’ and now we want to stop ‘Padmaavat,’ he said.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed all the states to comply with its order and to block the release of ‘Padmaavat’.

The movie releases on January 25.
