Durban: Virat Kohli scored a century against South Africa in the first of the six-match ODI series at the Kingsmead Durban on Thursday and added another feather to his cap. The Indian skipper is earning applauds from cricketing legends and the latest to join the list is former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar.
Team India defeated South Africa in the first ODI by six wickets to go 1-0 up in the series. Skipper Virat Kohli (112), as usual was the main man in the 270-run chase as he brought up his 33rd ODI century in the match.
“Another super run-chase by @imVkohli. When it comes to chases it’s either him or a Cheetah. Well done!! Hope youngsters pick this trait of @imVkohli,” tweeted Akhtar.
Kohli played a masterful inning of 112 runs off 119 balls and along with him, it was Ajinkya Rahane (79) who played brilliantly and strung a partnership of 189 runs for the third wicket.
India achieved the target with 27 balls to spare.
“First match of the series is important. We wanted to take the momentum of the (third) Test win into this and when we restricted South Africa to 270 on this sort of a pitch, we were happy,” Kohli said after the match.
